The Spirit, HOLY

Image
What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the  Holy  Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? – 1 Corinthians 6:19 What is your adjective? If you were to ask a number of people who know you what adjective best describes you, what do you think their answers will be? Now what would you like it to be? Holy, knowledgeable, forgiving, hardworking? The “third” person of the trinity, the Spirit, has an adjective that is so dear to Him it amazes me. He loves to be called the  Holy  Spirit or the  Holy  Ghost. You see, there are many ghosts in this world, and there are countless spirits, but the Spirit had to distinguish Himself. He could have picked any other adjective you know. Gracious Spirit, Loving Spirit, Powerful Spirit. Although He is all these things and more He decided to adopt the adjective most important to Him, Holy. The Spirit searched and the word Holy was the only word that could describe Him perfec...

The Danger of Comparison

Image
Last week, I was feeling very unaccomplished. A classmate of mine had just been promoted. All over Facebook and Instagram, my friends and contemporaries were posting about weddings, babies and new jobs and it made me wonder why I wasn’t like them. I started comparing my life to theirs and was feeling bad. But the Holy Spirit wouldn’t let me wallow in my self pity and sin (yes, being unappreciative of God’s blessings is a sin). As God would have it, my daily Bible reading landed on 2 Corinthians 10:12 “…when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely.” AMP. How can a child of God who has the Bible at her disposal act without wisdom. I immediately asked God for forgiveness and started singing songs of thanks and praise.

ONLY SON

It's Monday morning, a day like any other. You wake up, eat breakfast, kiss your wife and son goodbye, and go to work. You put in 8 hours. The day is done. As you drive home, you turn on the radio and search for a station: "That was Rich Mullins with Awesome God. Hi, I'm Phil Davis on WKMO the big E-Z. And now for the weather: tonight partly cloudy with a sticky 80 degrees. For tomorrow: slightly muggy with a 50% chance of showers. In the world today: The Bank of America Corp. said Friday it would cut as many as 10,000 jobs as it changes its focus from growing through mergers to becoming more profitable through the use of technology and operating efficiency. And finally tonight, a report from the remote village of Samair, India, where four villagers are dead after contracting a mysterious flu-like illness. Doctors are continuing their investigation into the deaths." It's not influenza, but 3 or 4 fellows are dead. It's kind of interesting actually. They...

What U do defines Who U are

We’ve all got that friend – the one who is always talking big, like they’re going to start this amazing new company, write an inspiring novel or change the world. In fact we probably have more than one friend we hear constantly talking about big future plans.  The problem I have noticed with not all, but many of my peers is follow-through. Ideas are everywhere, but motivation is seemingly nonexistent. Life doesn’t start tomorrow, life is happening right now. Successful people know this and are focused on achieving their dreams and goals 24/7.
