Anxiety attacks
Can I really do this? Am I good enough? Will this project work out? Can I ever get this job/contract? How would I know the right man? These and other undisclosed intimate questions have been fighting for a space in my mind lately breeding fear, worry and anxiety.
I do understand and believe that I have a father who cares greatly for me. I Peter 5 vs 7 spells it out “cast all our burdens on him because He cares” but why do I still worry about life issues? Why do I get depressed when am not going at the pace I planned or getting the desired results? Why does it seem like a dead end sometimes? It’s simply because I still wear my pride like a badge and cherish it. Pride and Anxiety come in a full package.
What’s the correlation between the two words Anxiety and Pride, you may ask? Just look at the two words, what is the letter in the middle of both of them “I”. A symbol of self. The truth is that you are anxious because you bear burdens not meant for you. Phil 4 vs 6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present, your requests to the Lord and the peace of the Lord which surpasses all understanding will guide your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. God knows that anxiety will come knocking that’s why he warned us earlier not to bear it.
Most of us claim the promise in Vs 7 forgetting that it is the other half of the in vs 6 of 1 Peter 5 “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting All your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” It is not possible to cast all your cares on him and not humble yourself. Vs 5 advised us, young people, to submit ourselves to elders ……..we should be clothed with humility… for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble”.
Pride makes us do things our way or plan to handle stuff the way we deem fit which usually flops making us worry about the next thing or that same flopped stuff” As the heavens are higher than the earth, so is Gods wisdom higher than that of men, you can’t handle any part of it bro. That’s why God said cast “ALL” not some of your burden upon Him. When you neglect the instruction of the master, then expect to have anxiety as your bedmate and no favourable result will ever emerge from them. You will most definitely feel the weight.
Can you imagine how anxious Peter and the other fishermen must have been when all night they couldn’t catch a single fish. But after he humbly obeyed Jesus’s instruction to cast his net at the most unlikely time to catch a fish, he and his team experienced a miracle.
God created order and the laws of the universe but He is not bound by them. He can achieve His goal in the most unlikely and unimaginable way. He can do exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can ever ask or imagine…” Don’t you see? The burden is not meant for you to bear. It's too heavy for you weak shoulders, give it to the Mighty one of valour and REST!. Do away with this “I” syndrome and focus on God to achieve your goal. You didn’t see yourself through the previous years, so why worry about the future? He cares for you but you must first humble yourself under the mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time…He always has the right timing and he will keep you in perfect peace if you wait. Your stress and predicament is for a while…He perfects all He starts. So instead of wearing your pride, clothe yourself with Humility and faith, knowing that He is able to keep whatever has been entrusted to His care.
If you think you are in the category of those who cannot do without worrying or still battling with pride (fighting for a total control of your life, like me) then join me in this prayer. I plan to make this a prayer point from now,
My Father in heaven, thank you for opening my eyes to understand. Please, Father, help me to daily humble myself under your mighty hand so you will exalt me in due time because I know you care for me. I give you all my worries, thank you for relieving me of them and keeping me in perfect peace, I pray in Jesus name, Amen, Amen!
