What have I gained

My stomach with earthly food I feasted
My mind and brain I nurtured with mental meal
But my soul…I starved

Meats I did chow together with kings
Finest of wine I gulped with queens
But failed to dine with Him at His table
Epitome of greatness I am
Prominent amidst mortals
Outstanding among peers
...but a nonentity before my Maker

Abs well sculptured
Body of Healthy Vigor
Curves appearing carved
Yet unfit for His kingdom

B.Sc., M.sc, PhD
Honorary Degrees…countless certification
Yet uncertified for life eternal


Acres …of land…I lord on
Mansions unnumbered I own
Yet I earned no place in His heavenly kingdom

Guinness book of records shelter my name
With gold it was inked on plaque
Streets, churches, parks, stadiums… named after me
But…nowhere to be found in the book of life

My assets I insured
My life I assured
My riches I banked
But failed to have banked
My soul with Him

Now I see the moon
Floating in the sky
Only to bear witness
Of my darkest night… Of my departure

Ghostly tears I weep
For my beginning
Has begun to end
And the time to go
Finally is come
Just a question
Bids my soul
What have I gained?
