Sermon Recap for August 07, 2016.
Theme: Ambassadors of God’s Love
Preacher: Rev. Oladele Odumosu
“And He died for all, that those who
live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and
rose again”. II Corinthians 5: 15
This,
in essence, makes us ambassadors of Christ.
- · An ambassador’s relevance bears more significance during times of conflict. His ministry is a ministry of reconciliation. Thus, as ambassadors of Christ, we are implored to reconcile people with God.
- · An ambassador is diligent. He employs all his skills towards the resolution of conflict. Likewise, we should use all our gifts, skills and talents in the pursuit of Christ’s work. Find a ministry and work for the Lord today.
- · An ambassador makes impact. In the same vein, we are to ensure that our lives impact and touch others. The love of God compels us to make impact. As ambassadors of Christ, we are to spread His love. The fact that people abuse kindness does not justify withdrawal of that love because Christ has not withdrawn His love in spite of our sins.
- · An ambassador is not selfish. He cares about the cause before personal comfort. Thus, we should not work for personal gain and we should willingly and joyfully make sacrifices for God. This includes resisting the need to go into defensive mode when insulted.
- · An ambassador does not procrastinate. He acts with an urgency to fulfil his cause. Likewise, we are implored to urgently turn to God and spread His word today.
- · Most importantly, as ambassadors of Christ, we must ensure that we live lives that make people want to turn to God.
We were also reminded of the significance of Christ’s
sacrifice. Unless you are the
beneficiary of Christ, you cannot enjoy eternal life. The best of moral men, no
matter how sincere, don't know the mind of God. The sincerity of a mistake does
not mitigate the consequences.
We were also reminded not to regard people in the flesh. This
means not being carried away by earthly positions. Regarding Christ or
people in the flesh is the biggest stumbling block to salvation.
